The “Rittai Kigoshi (three-dimensional wooden framework)” is based on the concept of wooden / timber systems / structuring in traditional Japanese architecture. In Europe, traditional wooden buildings have solid infill within the wooden framework, resulting in a planar expression. On the other hand, columns are considered the primary element of traditional Japanese wooden frameworks, and a spatial depth is generally produced by a structure devoid of walls or one possessing deep eaves. The grid structure have titled KIGUMI INFINITY was made for “Japan Pavilion, Expo Milano 2015.”
This same system has the potential for further development of complex forms through the differentiation of grid sizes, depths, and member size.
Kishu hinoki (Japanese cypress) is utilized for this exhibit.
