Junior Guide from Our Ecology #2: Julian Charrière, Monira Al Qadiri

2024.1.30 [Tue]

Inside the Our Ecology exhibition, we have set up Junior Guide panels that introduce key points to enjoy the exhibited works.
This time, we are highlighting two pieces from the exhibition here.
We encourage everyone to come visit the exhibition and experience the artworks while reading the panels.

Julian Charrière
Controlled Burn

In Greek mythology, Prometheus steals fire from the heavens and gives it to man, from which human civilization and technology develops. Have humans really been able to skillfully keep fire under control, however?
Here, Julian seems to prompt us to think backward in human history by layering images of industrial sites such as mines and cooling towers and fireworks going off, and then playing them backwards.

Monira Al Qadiri
The Disturbance

In Monira’s hometown on the Persian Gulf coast, natural pearls were once a major industry, but when pearl cultivation began in Japan about a hundred years ago, the Persian Gulf pearl industry declined.
Cultured pearls are grown by artificially placing a nucleus in a pearl oyster, but what if you thought about it from the pearl’s point of view?
Stand under these large pearls created by Monira and listen to the grudge of “disturbance” of the pearls.
