UNIFORMS BY THE Y'S TEAM
The staff uniforms for the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo City View and Museum Shop are designed by the team from Y's, one of the labels by internationally renowned fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto.
A simple, functional design, the Museum uniform has been created so as not to interfere with the viewer's appreciation of the art on display.
Born in Tokyo in 1943, Yohji Yamamoto studied fashion after first graduating from the Faculty of Law at Keio University in Tokyo in 1966. He established Y's Inc. in 1972 and presented his first collection in Tokyo in 1977. Yamamoto's first ready-to-wear collection in Paris in 1981 sent shock waves through the fashion world for its conceptually innovative use of black.

Since establishing Yohji Yamamoto Inc. in 1984, Yamamoto's ambitious designs have gradually strengthened his position in the fashion world. Yamamoto received the "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres" nomination from the French Minister of Culture in 1994 and the 18th Annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards' "International Award" in New York in 1999.
Last year he held his ready-to-wear collection just one day before the opening of the Paris Haute Couture collection week and published the autobiographical book "TALKING TO MYSELF".

Y's
The first brand created by Yamamoto, Y's encapsulates his attitude and philosophy toward clothes making. The starting point of any Y's garment is consideration for the independent woman; one of the most consistent themes in Yamamoto's work is the working woman. The brand focuses on cutting and silhouettes. Through the use of texture, volume and balance Yamamoto creates harmony between the body and clothes, creating essentially functional and elegant daily wear possessing a simple style that transcends fads.
