Konono No. 1 Live at Roppongi Hills Arena



One night only. A special performance by band Konono No. 1, renowned for its use of likembé (thumb piano), at Roppongi Hills Arena.

“Botswana: Art and Diamonds” Exhibition at Tokyo City View Observation Deck

As part of Botswana Week, a series of events to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Botswana’s independence, an exhibition of paintings and diamonds will be held at Tokyo City View Observation Deck.

An African Summer

To coincide with "Africa Remix", the French-Japanese Institute of Tokyo presents "An African Summer," a series of events that explores the many cultural facets of the African continent. The series will be launched on 3 June with a screening of Moolaadè, Sembène Ousmane’s latest movie and winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. (The film’s Japanese release is on 17 June at Iwanami Hall). Other highlights include a film program, African music events and a public discussion with artists who are participating in Africa Remix. Details will be announced on the Institute’s web site.

Vive l'Afrique

In parallel with Africa Remix, agnès b. , will hold an exhibition of four African artists' (three photographers and a painter) original pieces in its Agora on the 7th Floor of Ark Yagi Hills in Roppongi. Seydou Keïta, Malick Sidibè, J.D. Ojeikere and Frédéric Bruly Bouabré are the fathers of the African contemporary art scene and represented by “la galerie du jour agnès b.” in Paris. agnès b. has also lent one of the key works from her collection “Medicaments City” 2003 by Body Isek Kingelez to the Mori Art Museum to Africa Remix..
