The cocktail party is held every year in December for MAMC Benefactor and Fellow members, and provides an opportunity for them to get together with other members and discuss their ideas on "Art and Life" while at the same time enjoying a number of special events. This year the party was held at the Roppongi Hills Club, where the attendees enjoyed the luxurious surrounds and the panoramic view of Tokyo's night sky. The party began with a greeting from Nanjo Fumio, the Director, followed by a speech from Mr. Hubert Montouchet, President of Agnès b. SUNRISE INC., who kindly lent his support to the event. After the toast, the venue quickly filled with the buzz of conversation and the clinking of champagne glasses. We were lucky enough to have Ms. Françoise Morechand as a special guest on hand too. This year's special event was a poetry reading by Tsuruta Mayu, actress and MAMC Honorary Member. She read four poems from the Shinkokyu no Hitsuyou by Osada Hiroshi, with an acoustic guitar accompaniment by Aoki Hayato, and a performance by Higuchi Nobuko, the contemporary dancer. All of the performers' costumes were provided by Agnès b. Silence fell on the room as the lights dimmed and then the delicate sound of the guitar began to echo throughout the room and, it seemed, out into the gorgeous night sky too. The nostalgic tone of Osada's poems was also much enjoyed by the guests. After the readings, a raffle was held as the performers mingled with the members. Raffle prizes included items related to the artists in gRoppongi Crossing 2007h as well as an autographed copy of the exhibition catalog. Those who did not win any prize still went home with a miniature "Grey Goose" vodka bottle, compliments of E. S. JAPAN LTD, one of the MAMC Corporate members. All in all, the two hours seemed to pass in the blink of an eye, as members, guests and museum staff too laughed and talked with the Tokyo nightscape laid out before them. We would like to thank each of the members who attended and we look forward to welcoming you again next year. |
