Artist Talk: ikkibawiKrrr
MAM Screen 022: ikkibawiKrrr Related Program
Japanese-Korean simultaneous interpretation available
ikkibawiKrrr is a self-styled “visual research band” by artists Cho Jieun and Ko Gyeol (formed 2021 in Seoul). Ikkibawi is a Korean word meaning moss-covered rock, and krrr is an onomatopoeia describing the rolling motion of a living creature in nature. ikkibawiKrrr’s creative practice has been inspired by the nature of moss, which lives at the boundary between air and ground, adapting to its surroundings and expanding along various boundaries. Furthermore, since they began their work, they have focused on tropical plants and seaweed, which grow naturally as part of their environment while dynamically expanding boundaries, as they explore the relationship between these and human society and history. True to their name as a visual research band, ikkibawiKrrr places emphasis not only on visual works but also on musicality, engaging in collaborative work with people from various walks of life, primarily farmers, female divers, and scholars from across Asia.
This program will be held in conjunction with MAM Screen 022: ikkibawiKrrr at Mori Art Museum. The artists will talk about their past works, focusing on the pieces featured in this exhibition.
