- Roppongi Art Night 2026 Program: Liao Chien-Chung REC END 3.0 K-us
REC END 3.0 K-us is an interactive installation that transforms discarded home appliances into remote-controlled cars. Once essential to urban life, these “domestic relics” —including washing machines and rice cookers—are given new life and movement. Through the surreal and humorous sight of these machines moving around the space, the work draws attention to our hyper-consumer society and the waste generated by modern technology.
While modern appliances offer convenience and countless ways to express our personalities, some of their excessive features do little to improve daily life. Even when they still look “perfectly fine,” they eventually break down, reminding us that “built to last” does not mean “lasting forever.”
Liao Chien-Chung
Liao Chien-Chung graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts. Using model-making techniques, Liao creates highly realistic replicas of everyday objects that challenge viewers’ perceptions and reveal personal narratives and social critiques. Liao has exhibited at museums and art festivals in Taiwan and internationally and participated in artist residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Programme in Scotland. Liao’s works are held in collections including the White Rabbit Collection in Australia. Liao currently lives and works in New Taipei City.
