“McDonald’s Radio University” Is Now Open!

「McDonald’s Radio」
「McDonald’s Radio」

“McDonald’s Radio University,” a project by one of the WORLD CLASSROOM-featured artists Takayama Akira, is now open at McDonald’s Roppongi Hills. Participate in the project now!

About “McDonald’s Radio University (MRU)”
“McDonald’s Radio University” is a project to transform McDonald’s franchises all over town into a university. The “professors” are immigrants and refugees who had to leave their homelands for some reason, and “students” can listen to the professors’ lectures by entering a McDonald’s and ordering them along with hamburgers and drinks. Amidst today’s society where polarization between classes and communities is accelerating, McDonald’s is a space where people of various classes, races, ethnicities, religions, and ages will intermingle in terms of both workers and customers, and is also a “theater of the future” that theaters celebrating the coexistence of diverse beings should strive to be.
Let’s go out to McDonald’s and learn!

Audio Description of Exhibited Works
Produced by the WORLD CLASSROOM Youth Ambassadors

* In Japanese

Participants of the exhibition-related learning program “Art Camp Vol. 10: WORLD CLASSROOM Youth Ambassadors,” held with the cooperation of Rikkyo Educational Corporation, created audio commentary/description of works!

Six groups made up of students from Rikkyo Junior High School to Rikkyo University Graduate School each studied works exhibited at the WORLD CLASSROOM exhibition, learned about the historical, political, social, and cultural contexts behind them, and together with the artists and museum staff worked on producing the audio commentary/description of works. Enjoy listening to commentary created out of rich ideas not bound by preconceived notions, commentary that asks questions of the audience, and/or interactive commentary that makes you feel as though you were viewing the works with friends.
