Talk Session: "Tradition and Change"

The Royal Academy of Arts, established in 1768, is a unique institution located in the heart of London. President Christopher Le Brun, also a renowned artist will visit Japan for the first time since he was elected 26th President of the Royal Academy. He has agreed to give a special talk on the history of the Royal Academy and its role in the contemporary art today.
After his presentation, he will engage in a dialogue with Nanjo Fumio, Director of the Mori Art Museum.

Christopher Le Brun
Christopher Le Brun is the 26th President of the Royal Academy of Arts. He was elected Royal Academician in the Category of Engravers, Printmakers and Draughtsmen in 1996 and in 2000 he became the Academy's first Professor of Drawing.
Born in Portsmouth in 1951, Le Brun studied at the Slade School of Fine Art (DFA) London from 1970-74 and at Chelsea School of Art (MA) from 1974-75. From 1987-88 he received the D.A.A.D. award from the German government, living and working in Berlin for a year. Le Brun is a former trustee of Tate, the National Gallery, and the Dulwich Picture Gallery. He is currently a trustee of the Prince's Drawing School. He is a Painter, Sculptor and Printmaker and his work is in many national and international collections including those of Tate, The British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum and Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
