Sonia Boyce Artist Talk “On Art, Freedom and Collaboration”
MAM Project 034: Sonia Boyce Related Program
Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation available
Join us for a special conversation with Sonia Boyce DBE RA, one of Britain’s most celebrated contemporary artists and the first Black woman to represent the UK at the Venice Biennale 2022 - where she was awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation.
This special event coincides with her first institutional presentation in Japan, MAM Project 034: Sonia Boyce, featuring Devotional Wallpaper and Placards (2008-2020) at the Mori Art Museum.
For her first public talk in Japan, Boyce reflects on over four decades of pioneering practice spanning film, photography, sound, and installation. In conversation with Victor Wang, Adjunct Curator at Mori Art Museum, Boyce will discuss her collaborative, improvisational approach to artmaking and how her work continues to challenge and expand ideas of authorship, freedom, and cultural identity.
