Ron Mueck Talk Session “Ron Mueck and Human Sculpture”
Ron Mueck Related Program
Conducted in Japanese
With their exquisite form and scale — often far removed from the human body — Ron Mueck’s works evoke a fundamental sense of unease in the viewer. This effect goes beyond mere technical virtuosity, prompting the viewer to ask, ‘What is the human body?’
Mueck gained attention at the Sensation: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection exhibition held at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1997. However, he distinguished himself from the conceptual strategies shared by the YBA (Young British Artists), consistently exploring the possibilities of figurative sculpture.
This talk session will feature Akutsu Hirohiko, a specialist in anatomical drawing, and Suzuki Tomoaki, a sculptor and friend of Mueck. Using Mueck’s 30-year career as a starting point, they will examine sculpture as a representation of the human body through the lenses of art history and contemporary British art.
