Collaborative Project Space by the Museum and the Artists

The space aims to further discuss from various perspectives in a constructive manner, which essentially stem from the differences in various positions and views that became apparent between the artists and the Museum in the process leading up to the realization of this exhibition. We will invite a variety of experts to speak on the issues that arose throughout the exhibition production process; from those related to art such as the relationship between artists and contemporary art museums, the history of the possibilities and limitation of contemporary art, and freedom of expression and the artistic independence of art museums, to a wide range of social issues behind them - in addition to the exhibition of the works below.

Approx. 10-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line “Toranomon Hills Station” / approx. 30 minutes from the Mori Art Museum

Admission:
Free, however, only Chim↑Pom: Happy Spring visitors (with the exhibition admission ticket) are eligible for a visit. Please book your visit to the Project Space (date & time) upon visiting the exhibition at the Mori Art Museum.
Booking:
All visits will be by appointment only; please make your way to the Booking Counter set up inside the Mori Art Museum (53F, Roppongi Hills Mori Tower).
* Please note that the premise will be vacated completely in between each time slot.
* At the Booking Counter upon completion of booking, you will be handed a map to the Project Space, along with your booking details which you should please present at the Project Space.
Hours of Booking Counter:
10:00-22:00
* 10:00-17:00 on Tuesdays, however open until 22:00 on Tuesday, May 3, 2022

What Constitutes Autonomy for an Art Institution? Specific Practices and Challenges

Historically, art institutions have made various attempts to establish artistic autonomy, an effort that continues today through different approaches and methodologies by organizations and individuals. While this talk studies specific practices from the past, it also examines the challenges that art museums, art centers, and other cultural institutions face as they strive to ensure artistic autonomy.

Encouraging a More Open Debate on Freedom of Expression

Discussions on freedom of expression often lap into conventional stereotypes. In order to open up the debate, perhaps it is necessary to listen not only to those in the cultural industry or legal practitioners, but also to the often overlooked viewpoints of the wider public.
