The 14th edition of "LOVE" in a Minute introduces Tracey Emin's I promise to love you, shown in "Section 3: Love in Losing" of "All You Need Is LOVE." Tracey Emin is one of the artists representing a new generation in the UK.
One of the Young British Artists, or YBAs, symbolizing a new generation in the UK in the 1990s, Tracey Emin found herself in the spotlight due to the way she revealed herself by turning traces of her personal love life into art. Emin has continued to externalize her passions and memories through diverse media, including installations that reproduce personal spaces, such as beds and tents, prints combining images and text, and works in neon.
This exhibition features 3 of Emin's neon works: I promise to love you (2010), You made ME LOVE You (2010), and I can't believe how much you loved me (2012). Evoking the bawdiness of billboard advertisements and nightscapes of Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo, Emin's spirited, handwritten messages, rendered in neon, speak of dualities inherent in love--craving and loss, provocation and rejection.
